Ian Harrold | Artist | Cornwall

A painter in oils, creating works in North Cornwall which are abstract , inspired by the landscape of Cornwall, his adopted home of 30 years. Originally a goldsmith,  after a long career in TV he is now working in the fine arts including painting, printmaking and sculpture. He exhibits his work regularly in St Ives.

Inspiration has many forms in Cornwall. For us the 'Iron Bound Coast' close to us in the north of the county is our most familiar, from Boscatle, Trebarwith Strand, Strangles and Crackington Haven, entering Devon to find find Sandymouth and Hartland to the north, the coastline is a constant source of stimualtion. It is true that summer is not the most peaceful time here but come the Autumn the treasures of our coast are reclaimed.

I have been fortunate enough over the last few years to have my work exhibited and sold at art galleries in St Ives, previously by the Penwith Gallery and currently by the Porthminster Gallery. The latter represents my works in oil in West Cornwall. Both galleries have a rich history and are known internationally for their collections of 20th Century Modern artists' works, and I am delighted to see my work displayed and sold alongside that of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Sandra Blow, Eduardo Chillida, Terry Frost, Barbara Hepworth, Peter Lanyon, Alexander Mackenzie, and Ben Nicholson, as well as the best contemporary art that Cornwall has to offer. With such illustrious company one cannot help but be inspired.

My relationship with the Porthminster Gallery has been particularly rewarding, over 50 paintings having been sold through them in my first year alone.
